About the Trees:

<- The jaca (jackfruit) is a very tall (up to 80 feet), elegant tree that contains latex. Male flowers appear among the leaves and female flowers appear on the trunk and large branches. Its fruit is the largest in the world, up to 80 pounds, and the flesh is pineapple-flavored (the outside of the fruit, however, smells like onions)
->The avocado fruit is technically a berry, and trees can produce over 100 in one year. The fruit matures on the tree but doesn’t actually ripen until it falls (or is picked). Avocado trees can reach heights of 85 feet. (info from wikipedia)
<- Banana trees grow 10-23 feet tall and often grow in clusters. Trees flower once in their life and can be cut back after giving fruit to spring up anew.
Maracujá -> (passionfruit) is actually a vine that winds its way up other trees; it can grow up to 20 feet in one year. It loves sun and produces a delicious, tart fruit that is said to have a calming effect when eaten
<- Almeçegas grow to be very strong and large. The leaves and flowers have been used to treat snake bites, respiratory disease, and malaria. (info from ethnobiomed.com)
-> The Baru nut tree is native to the Cerrado region of Brazil. The nuts are commonly used in pé-de-moleque, a Brazilian version of peanut brittle. The wood is very strong and good for building – which has contributed to its being close to extinction. (info from slowfoodfoundation.com)
<- The jaboticaba is a small, bushy evergreen tree that can grow 12-45 feet tall. It grows slowly and produces small, yellowish flowers, which appear all along the trunk and branches in groups of four. The fruit has a grape-like appearance and is a little acidic.
