JOÃO AMORIM – Secretary, Co-Founder

João Amorim is a filmmaker, Product Designer and Permaculture enthusiast. He has a Bachelor of Science in Product Design from Art Center College of Design. As a filmmaker João has dedicated himself to the creation of ecologically and socially conscious movies.

João has studied Super Adobe construction method at Cal-Earth with the late Nader Khalili (inventor of the technique); João has also studied Bio construction at Eco-Center Ipec and Agro forestry with Ernst Gotsch. João has been implementing Bio-construction techniques, rainwater harvesting, Solar Showers and dry composting toilets for the last few years at their site “Grota Funda”. João is also an active member of ciclo sustainable, a NGO set up to implement regenerative design techniques in Brazil ( In 2008 his project “Sustainable unit”, which combined shelter, food production, sanitation, rainwater harvesting and energy, was a finalist at the internationally acclaimed, Buckminster Fuller Challenge.

Heather Greer is an award-winning videographer, multimedia artist, and adjunct professor at the Interactive Telecommunications Programs at the Tisch School of the Arts. Her work spans installations as well as other works in documentary and feature film, mixed media, animation and theater. On a humanitarian and media education level, Heather has worked in several countries including Rwanda, Malawi, Mali and Bangladesh.

LEWIS KOFSKY – Treasurer, Co-Founder
partner at Curious Pictures New York, where he guides all technology and produces projects ranging from video games to socially-conscious documentaries; Stanford trained in design engineering and appropriate technology; holds permaculture design certification from NYC’s Center for Bioregional Living; trained at SUNY Ulster in edible forest gardens; NABCEP certified; Bioconstruindo (Bioconstruction) 2009 program participant

AMBER KUSMENKO – Chair, Co-Founder
designer&artist, media and communication, green blog author, trained at SUNY Ulster in edible forest gardens, BFA in Film & Television from NYU Tisch School of the Arts; holds permaculture design certification from both NYC’s Center for Bioregional Living and Brazil’s Ecocentro IPEC; Bioconstruindo (Bioconstruction) 2009 program participant

Douglass Sims is an attorney who specializes in energy and sustainability issues.  For the past 8 years, Douglass has worked as a project finance specialist at Allen & Overy LLP, a leading international law firm.  During that time, Douglass worked on infrastructure and energy projects, primarily in Latin America and Africa.  His also a partner in BlackTartan LLC, a media company developing projects in support of the protection of the Amazon region and its cultures.
